Day 2 Fabulous Flora Activity 2 Mighty Mangroves

Activity 2: Mighty Mangroves
Here in New Zealand we have a native tree called a Kiwi Mangrove. Kiwi Mangroves grow in shallow water (harbours). The largest mangrove or manawa forests in New Zealand are located in Northland and in Auckland. According to many environmental experts, they are one of the toughest and strongest trees in the world because they can survive in really harsh (difficult) conditions.
For this activity you are asked to think of someone who is very tough and strong. They can be someone who you know personally or they can be a character that you have read about in a book, seen in a movie, or on a television show.
On your blog, tell us about this person. Who are they? Why are they, in your opinion, so strong and tough?

MY DAD

My Dad is the strongest because he is tough and strong and he has cool tattoos and he does boxing
too. My Dads name is Sam. He trains me and my little brother. When he boxes he is fast as at punching and really good. My dad said boxing is only for exercise and self defense because violence is not good. I know my Dad is really smart too he can play the guitar and drums and he loves his fast cars. I want to be just like my dad when I'm older.

  1. Hi Jahrey,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. I'm reading your blog from my home in Canada where it's extremely cold right now. The temperature outside is -35 C. Can you imagine that?

It's great to see a photo of you with your dad a little brother, sitting outside in your summer clothes. I can see that your dad is big and strong and has great tattoos. He sounds like a super role model for you. Aren't you lucky to have such a great dad?

I think it's super that your dad enjoys working hard, getting exercise, but not because he wants to 'fight' people violently. That's so important. There are other ways to settle differences, aren't there? I'm sure you talk about that in your classes at school.

I've never boxed but I took physical education at university so I really enjoy playing sports. Are there other sports that you enjoy, along with boxing?

I hope you're enjoying these Summer Learning Journey activities. Keep up your great work and I'll keep on reading your blog.

    Cheers,

    Leslie
